MRAS

Mary Rose Archaeological Services Ltd [MRAS] is a contracting company wholly owned by the Mary Rose Trust. The Trust has 30 years of unrivalled expertise in the conservation of waterlogged organic artefacts.

In Portsmouth we have the largest archaeological wood conservation facility in Europe and we are the “Lead UK museum for maritime archaeology and conservation” [United Kingdom Maritime Collection Scheme]. Our research with maritime museums and leading universities from around the world puts us at the forefront of archaeological conservation technology.

The Mary Rose Trust facilities have been developed to conserve the Mary Rose hull and the 19,000 associated artefacts. MRAS has made spare conservation capacity available to the archaeological community but over the last three years the new Mary Rose museum has taken all our conservation facilities and no new projects have been accepted. However conservation resources are now becoming more available.

If our waterlogged wood conservation experience or facilities might be useful for your project please contact us.
