2017 is the year Prince Philip turns 96, the Queen turns 91 and their marriage turns 70. We’re guessing they have their celebrations sorted but what can the rest of us do when it comes to helping our own wonderful older relatives on these special occasions?
We know what it’s like – granny or grandad say they don’t want anything for their birthday or that Golden or Diamond wedding anniversary, because just being with all the family makes them happy enough.
Take them at their word – but give them the experience of a lifetime, too – by hiring The Wardroom at the Mary Rose for a lunch or tea-party they’ll never forget.
Our High Tea is the perfect afternoon out for as few as four people, or as many as 18. At £40 per person, tea includes – naturally! – exquisite finger sandwiches, scones, cakes and pastries, with the chance to upgrade to Sparkling High Tea with fizz for an extra £10 per person.
Lunch packages starts at £80 per person, including pre-lunch drinks on the balcony and a seasonal two-course lunch.
These types of celebrations are perfect for older relatives, who may not want the hassle of coming out in the evening and is perfect for gaining the best day-time views from The Bridge Balcony, overlooking HMS Victory and a sweep of the Historic Dockyard.
The chance to use the Bridge Balcony is part of our Wardroom package and so is our private museum tour, taking in the jaw-dropping exhibits and the newly presented Mary Rose herself, which can be seen in all her glory with each deck view fully accessible, thanks to our lift system.
It’s a unique way to experience the world’s largest Tudor artefact, which was dramatically raised from the seabed 35 years ago, as well as a day out your grandparent or relative will remember forever.
