The archaeologists didn't find any toilets for the crew on the Mary Rose. There might have been planks with holes cut in them right at the front of the ship. These would have been over the water, so everything would fall straight into the sea. It must have been a pretty nasty experience using them in bad weather! You can see toilets like these (called "heads" in Navy speak) on HMS Victory. |
Pewter Chamber Pot At least one of the officers seems to have had his own chamber pot. We found this pewter one just outside the aftercastle of the Mary Rose.
