Cod

Herring came from both the North Sea and the Irish Sea. Every year the herring would migrate south, followed by the fishing boats. The herring were caught in nets.

When Henry VIII was at war he would send armed ships to protect the fishing boats.

Cod were caught in the North Sea and off the coast of Iceland. Some may even have come from as far away as Newfoundland, off the coast of Canada.

"Stockfish", the rock hard, air-dried cod, was often brought from Norway.
