Another
way of telling the time was by using a sundial. In Tudor times almost
all clocks worked using pendulums. Pendulum clocks need to be still
and upright to work properly. They would not work on a moving ship.
Since watches hadn't been invented, the only portable way of telling the time was the pocket sundial. Nine sundials
were found on the Mary Rose, six of them looked like the one in the
picture. This type are made of boxwood. |
