The Mary Rose » Museum Marks

A Guide to the Personal Marks on the Museum

Most of the crew and soldiers used wooden plates and bowls. Perhaps, because few could read or write, they used their special marks to identify their belongings.

We've decorated the outside of the Mary Rose Museum with some of these marks to show that this Museum is about these ordinary men.

We've also produced this guide to the marks, so you can find the original artefacts in the museum.
