Dinner Attended by HRH The Prince of Wales Raises Half a Million Pounds
His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales is introduced to guests by Christopher Moran.
A dinner in Crosby Hall, London on 24th May hosted by Mary Rose Trustee Christopher Moran raised almost half a million pounds for the Mary Rose and will prompt more donations in the years ahead. The dinner, attended by HRH, The Prince of Wales was held at the Tudor mansion of Mr Moran that he has been researching and restoring over the last 25 years. The dinner was held in the Great Hall, originally built in the fifteenth century and was preceded by a reception in the adjoining entrance hall that overlooks the fine garden in Tudor style. At the reception, His Royal Highness met the guests and supporters of the Mary Rose who had the opportunity of seeing a selection of the artefacts from the collection and two models of the proposed new Museum. Guests from Government included Shaun Woodward MP, Minister for Creative Industries and Tourism and Dame Sue Street, Permanent Secretary at the Department of Culture Media and Sport. Whilst many of the guests were new to The Mary Rose Project, others included long-standing supporters both individuals and those representing major UK companies.
Mr Moran organised a splendid evening, with fine wines accompanying the gourmet food prepared by Michel Roux Jr of Le Gavroche. Speeches were given by both His Royal Highness and Christopher Moran whilst John Lippiett concluded the evening with a message of thanks. Pledges of support received during the evening reached over £460,000 and the Mary Rose Trust is confident that many more guests, who were only introduced to our work for the first time during the evening, will give to the appeal after they have visited us here in Portsmouth and as the work towards the new museum progresses.
