I'll make sure the stump of his leg is kept clean by pouring wine over it. We'll finish off by tying off the arteries in his leg to stop him bleeding to death and then stitch the wound up. Put a clean dressing on his leg and let him rest. Let us pray that the wound doesn't go bad and that he lives to be put ashore. You'll get a lot of experience in performing operations on injuries and wounds while you're on the Mary Rose. We can even treat head injuries by sawing a hole in the skull to relieve bleeding on the brain. Perhaps the easiest operations you'll do are pulling out teeth, so we'll look at that subject next. |
