Tudor Age Music
The reign of Elizabeth I saw the
flowering of the English choral style, under the leadership
of Tallis and Byrd. There was a parallel burgeoning of musical
and poetic talent in the form of the madrigal from numerous
composers, together with development in other arts, such
as dance. The music in this recording contains a selection
of some of the types of secular music of the period, including
four and five-part madrigals, loud and soft consort music
and lute pieces.

Court Jesters

Downland, Byrd, Henry VIII and other court composers.
