We have an amazing and exciting opportunity to give the Nation a world-class museum and to preserve for future generations this extraordinary ship and all her treasures. The long period of spraying will come to an end in 2011 and the hull will be slowly dried out with conservation completed in 2016. The public will then enjoy a much closer, fully illuminated look at the ship. Over 14,000 of the artefacts will be displayed , shown in their original positions and in relation to their owners, presenting a vivid illustration of life on board a Tudor warship.
- The full Mary Rose story can then be told, and its significance to the study of Tudor life both on and off the water will be clearly illustrated and accessible to all.
- A new learning centre will quadruple the existing learning space and increase our work with people of all ages who have special needs.
- New and improved laboratory and workshop facilities will further enhance the Mary Rose as a Centre of Maritime Archaeology and Conservation.

But all this will be very costly - in the order of £35M! To date, we have raised nearly £3.5 million through our Fundraising Appeal and our bid to the heritage Lottery Fund for £21 million has been successful.
We need your help because we receive no Government grants and we rely on voluntary donations.
Giving electronically is so easy, just click on the button below.
There are plenty of ways in which you can support us. Before we give you some ideas, please read the following about GIFT AID. It is such a simple way to nearly double the benefit of your donation.
GIFT AID
All donations, of any size, matter to us, and if you GIFT AID them we can draw an extra 28% income through HM Revenue and Customs. We can also gain increased funding through Matched Funding from bodies such as the Heritage Lottery Fund.
One GIFT AID form will ensure that all donations you make to us will attract this extra benefit.
Matched Funding.
Our major supporter, the Heritage Lottery Fund, provides funding by providing 60% of the project cost with the Trust raising the remaining 40%. This means that £10 will have an extra £6 added to it by the Lottery. If we combine GIFT AID and Matched Funding, £10 gains £2.80 from HM Revenue and Customs and can attract £6 from the Heritage Lottery Fund. This means that your £10 becomes £18.80. Making a Donation, what it means in practical terms:
Income from donations is vital if we are to continue with our programmes of conservation and education. Here are some examples of how your gift can help us:
- £6 will pay expenses for one volunteer for one day.
- £25 enables us to control and monitor the environment of one of the objects on display for a whole year (there are 14,000 artefacts to bring out on display)
- £30 will pay for a replica nit comb for hands on learning!
- £50 will help our Education programme by covering the cost of a costumed interpreter in the museum for a day
- £100 funds the cost of conserving two of the cast-iron cannon balls found in the wreck
- £250 will conserve a barrel, or a whole quiver of arrows
- £500 will allow us to offer a free day visit and classroom activities to a deprived inner city school
- £1000 pays for one of our chests of replicas that go to schools whose pupils cannot get access to our Museum due to problems of distance, disability or disadvantage.
- £1000 is the cost of 1 tonne of polyethylene glycol (PEG), the vital chemical used to conserve the hull and wooden artefacts of the Mary Rose
All the above levels of donation can attract Gift Aid and Matched Funding, so, for example, giving £50 becomes £94 to the Mary Rose Trust!
