on the left side of the aisle the displays concentrate on the conservation
of the artefacts, including a tank containing a pulley block and
timbers from the ship. These are being treated with polyethylene
glycol, the same chemical used to conserve the ship.
The next case on the other side displays some of the personal possessions of the crew. Embossed book covers, showing that at least some of the crew were literate; rosary beads and a bosuns call on a ribbon are among the finds on show here. The adjacent display contains domestic items, such as a lantern (left), candle holders and candles, a pepper mill, manicure set (right) and a pomander.
