We are always looking for new people to join our passionate and welcoming team. Could you be someone we’re looking for?
Every day the Mary Rose Museum receives hundreds of visitors. To make their visit as enjoyable as possible, we need passionate people of all ages to share their knowledge of Tudor History, the ship and our collection.
Whether it’s helping with family workshops, delivering guided tours, assisting our education team with schools, or answering questions for visitors, we have a wide range of roles available.
A range of guided tours are delivered by volunteers. Additional training will be provided.
“My day can be very varied. I might lead an adult group on a tour of the Museum, guide a family visiting for a birthday celebration or demonstrate how to fire a Tudor cannon to a class of enthusiastic children. My day is never dull!”

Handling tables allow visitors to handle real and replica Tudor objects, and to find out more about the collection by engaging with the visitors.
“You never really get used to the look on people’s faces when they experience the feel of Tudor timbers, or the smell of pitch applied to rope during the 16th century. Being part of the experience is what makes your day.”

Volunteers help conduct family activities in our Learning Centre during school holidays.
“I love helping with the children’s activities in the Museum. We help to run fun events during the schools holidays such as calligraphy, making Tudor tiles and pomanders and even designing our own model of Hatch, the ship’s dog.”

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, are aged over the age of 16 and available between the hours of 09:45 and 17:30 for at least one day a week, we would like to hear from you. Please note DBS checks are completed on successful volunteer positions.

You must be at least 16 years old.
We offer a range of opportunities with different levels of time, commitment, and flexibility.
For visitor-facing roles we will ask you to commit to a minimum of six months.
You will be issued with a uniform consisting of a shirt and jumper and a name badge. Costumes are not compulsory, but we do have them available, should you wish to wear one.
No, while a love of Tudor history is appreciated, training will be provided, which will include shadowing an experienced volunteer for six to eight weeks. After this you should feel confident to go out on your own.
